This trend is definately a throwback to preppy couture. I’m not saying you need to wear a three-piece suit with a monacle, but there are ways to incorporate nice tailored pieces into your everyday look.

Tailored being the key word here: It needs to fit your body like it was made for you specifically.

This Rebecca Taylor Dress from shopbop.com is a great example. The stiching at the skit accentuates a smaller waist (even if you don’t have one). I also love the way it IS a dress, but it looks like two separate pieces.

I have always loved the look of a blazer on men and women. This velvet blazer from Alice and Olivia is absolutely gorgeous. I love the tailoring of it, and you can wear it with a pair of skinny jeans and heels, or flats…over a dress…etc. I know it is getter hotter, so it might be harder to pull off. But it could make a great nightime look or for a meeting in an air-conditioned office lol.

Ths Chulo Pony vest…is absolutely adorable. You can wear it to the office or even be daring and wear it for a night out.

Then we have a BCBG little coverlet. I think that you can dress this up and down and make it as conservative or sexy as you want.

Last but not least we can’t forget about shoes! I would most likely go for the more demure Michael Kors, but if you are feeling ultra fierce and uber trendy, go for the Lineas.
