For his resort line, Karl Lagerfeld took over the pool at The Raleigh hotel in Miami with looks inspired by Brian Jones and “Last Year at Marienbad.”

MIAMI — With a lifeguard perched above the Raleigh pool and double-C logoed life preservers and beach balls scattered throughout, the Chanel cruise extravaganza was ready to kick off on Thursday night.

Those expecting “Miami Vice” pastels or even a touch of “Golden Girls” were in for a surprise, though. Karl Lagerfeld set the mood with an all-black start that was more Paris and New York than some of the world’s sunnier locales. But then cruise is about so much more than just a vacation wardrobe, and few know that better than Lagerfeld himself.

Rather than home in on one specific theme, Lagerfeld went in a few directions for cruise, from sleek black tuxedos to wide jackets and bell-bottom pants, metallic punk blazers, HotPants, plastic floral embellishments, bows and bow ties galore and the new way of reinterpreting the Chanel logo — inside a heart on minidresses, pale tie-dyed T-shirts and handbags.
“It’s all about proportions, cuts, volumes,” he said, pre-show. “There is not one line that is taken all through the collection. For cruise, you don’t do that. There are many looks and an attitude.”

(MIAMI) Karl’s got a gun. Several dozen, in fact, and he showed them off at Thursday night’s carnival of a cruise collection, shown quite literally in the pool of South Beach’s famed Raleigh Hotel. A parade of actual gun casings, painted silver, black, and gold, filed down the painted-black curvilinear runway constructed along the interior of the hotel’s famed pool. (”Only Karl,” laughed André Balazs). Lagerfeld had been inspired by an image of a gun he saw somewhere, and he gave the tear to shoe designer Laurence Dacade, who employed plexi to make them functional. Voila! The “Miami Vice” shoe, as it’s called in Chanel’s ranks, is born. And yes, you’ll see them in stores.

Lagerfeld claimed the Art Deco masterpiece was his primary inspiration for the collection, which also blended moods from the Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones and “Last Year at Marienbad.” Really, the pool in particular? “Yes! Very particular,” he confessed backstage, referencing the Esther Williams films that delighted him as a child and inform his aesthetic this season. (No wonder he chose the Raleigh’s Esther Williams suite for his Miami digs.)

I honestly was gunning for Claire…then Katarzyna…then Whitney. I figured they took her this far for a reason. They couldn’t have two black girls win back to back, and it was about time a Plus Sized Model won. And I must say, she had a fierce walk. Anya was very rushed and boring, but Whitney came slinking down the runway like she was made to walk it. Congrats to her! I’m sure Fatima and Anya will have no issues getting work from agencies.

Because I’m an impatient SATC fan, I had to scour the internetz for more information on the upcoming movie. So obviously, spoilers ahead…

4. In the closing scene, the girls toast Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) 50th birthday!!

You should know by now that I love a good deal, especially on shoes and clothes. Billion Dollar Babes is having a spring sale on May 30th! I just registered the site so I don’t know what else I have to do to get an invite. I did send them an e-mail though. When they get back to me I’ll update this post with more information.

I guess they do have different memberships for a one-time yearly fee which would be worth it if you did a lot of shopping. I’d personally love to go to see the new trends and get my hands on some new threads before anybody else does. muahhaha!
