ANTM Cycle 10 Episode 7

Apr 3, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: antm

The videos aren’t posted yet, but hopefully I will have them by today.

**warning: spoilers ahead**

Claire….wtf happened to you!? She started out so fierce and then she slowly deteriorated. Who face plants into plastic? They specifically told her not to do that. And at the go-sees she was wayy too over-animated and sometimes that turns people off. Yeah I dunno, I think she just lost it. Actually no, I think she missed her family and kind of subconsciously destroyed her chances. Luckily with this show if you don’t win, you have a greater chance of being successful. I think the agencies will love her.

Dominique…go away. Stop raising your eyebrow!

Fatima I hope you shaved your armpits girl…

Whitney looks gorgeous. Sadly she won’t win because Tyra doesn’t give it up for the plus size ladies. I think she should, I mean they have Queen Latifa on CoverGirl too.

Lastly, this was the WORST photo shoot idea ever. You can’t see anybody’s face and it just looks like a giant blur. The artsy stuff is what you do for fun after you have been modeling. The lighting was awful…ugh it was just so stupid.

Spring Fashion

Apr 3, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: Articles

The yin and the yang of spring fashion:

In a cruel twist of fashion, easy, breezy styles fit for the patio and poolside have been front and centre for months, just as we are enduring a seemingly endless winter.

First, on the fall runways for spring there were jolts of colour shock — lavish swaths of electric yellow or brilliant red from the likes of Lanvin, or minimalist magentas cut to perfection from Jil Sander. In the depths of winter, we saw models in billowing living colour taunting us from magazine ads and feature spreads for the new spring look.

They were better than those beer ads; you could just feel yourself lounging poolside in the dappled light, happily covered up in a light-as-feather silk frock. What could be finer? Then there were the spring bouquets — art nouveau prints from Prada, overblown peonies from Balenciaga, bold splashy florals from Dries Van Noten.

Now, spring has arrived in stores in its multi-coloured, flowered splendour. Screeching yellows — often in graphic or floral prints with black and white — are everywhere, from Club Monaco to Mango, and tend to get a “Yuck, who can wear that?” response. They do get your attention, though.

It all gets better from there. Diane Von Furstenberg’s long dresses, so marvellous on the runway, translate into real life — almost. Easier still are hippie-esque floral gowns or ombre ones in which that bright bolt of blue or orange fades to pale.

And the flowers! Delicate bouquets and cabbage roses have an artsy bent, as if scrawled by the hand of a master. These are not mumsy florals, but meant for mixing and mismatching. Even Balenciaga’s fierce runway looks have morphed into splashy — but wearable — prints.

The perfect foil for all this extravagant colour and pattern? Khaki. The classic safari jacket brings the boldness down a notch.

Forty years ago, Yves Saint Laurent introduced the safari jacket, and it has travelled far and wide ever since.

Of course, it was not a new invention — the novelty was in transforming it into fashionable wear. It had been the outfit of Europeans on safari to Africa early in the 20th century. Think Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in Out of Africa — but take away the sweeping skirts.

The safari look remains, in one form or another, the classic travel wear of a certain breed of tourist, both female and male. Its hallmarks include patch pockets, epaulets, belts and button details. And naturally, it’s natural in colour — call it khaki, taupe or sand — anything but beige.

Saint Laurent introduced another daring innovation in 1968: transparency. Paired with the masculine jacket, it makes the perfect balance of yin and yang — and is very much the look of safari 2008.

Another positive: khaki is calm — it will tone down any hot hue or pattern of the season, from brilliant blue and screeching yellow to bouquets of bold florals.

Meanwhile, the snow lingers and we dream of the easy dressing to come. Which will make the pickings all the sweeter when spring finally settles in.

Velvet is In

Apr 2, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: Fall, Trends

Last week I had mentioned this gorgeous velvet blazer just because of my own preferences. Turns out, the look is still in.

This fall, velvet is the fabric of choice for chic ladies who can wear everything from sexy dresses to sleek, skinny pants. Now some of you may find velvet constricting, but this year it’s going through an overhaul.
Lighter and Looser — that’s the turn velvet is taking this fall. Talking about pieces that layer easily with other fabrics.
Example: Mimi Turner’s silk rayon velvet jacket, Laila Azhar’s silk top, Nolita’s polyester dress and cotton leggings from Simone by Katie Nehra. Wunderkind shoes.

Sex and the City Tour?!

Apr 2, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: Articles

Want to live out the glitzy “Sex and the City” dream?

A high-end travel company will give you the chance to walk, shop - and even flirt - like TV’s most famous single women in all their favorite New York haunts.

“It’s a real fantasy for women,” said Joanne Konstantinakos, 36, founder of the Destination on Location travel company. “They still talk about this show all around the world.”

Just eight to 12 women at a time will jet into the city for the five-night re-creation of everything Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda and Carrie would do.

It’ll cost $24,000 to join the fun and attend the May 27 premiere of the movie based on the famed series (airfare not included).

There’s a limo ride to the Plaza Athenee hotel, where the next-to-last episode of the show was filmed.

The women will find a welcome bag chock-full of gift cards for “SATC”-friendly stores like ABC Carpet & Home, Takashimaya and Jimmy Choo, and even a never-released Patricia Field handbag.

The first stop is SoHo House, an ultra-exclusive members-only club in the Meatpacking District.

Jet-lagged participants will be treated to a “pretty party,” complete with spa treatments, manicures and pedicures.

“It’s really off the hook,” Konstantinakos said.

One of the first women to book the trip is from Singapore, where the TV show was banned because of what authorities deemed its racy content too racy.

The group will get an exclusive shopping trip and cocktail party at Jimmy Choo, where characters from the hit HBO show often splurged on shoes.

The next day will start with brunch at Cafeteria on Seventh Ave., and the ladies will even get to sit at the tables where Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall sipped coffee on the show.

Since many fans of the show identify with one of the four characters, the tour plans to organize a special “Perfect Saturday” of activities that each character might enjoy.

For example, Miranda-types will take a laid-back shopping trip and go for a jog in Central Park.

Those who like artsy Charlotte will go gallery-hopping, while sex-starved Samantha wanna-bes will head for Babeland, a sex-toy shop in SoHo.

Even though the tour organizers aren’t promising a Mr. Big, they do vow to give the out-of-towners a chance to hook up with real New York guys.

“The power of ‘Sex and the Ci-ty’ is really so strong globally,” Konstantinakos said. “It has a huge appeal.”

Woody Allen files lawsuit against American Apparel

Apr 1, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: Articles

Is this an april fools joke?

Tuesday, April 01, 2008
(NEW YORK) Woody Allen has his limits. The acclaimed director, who professed a love of Versace sweaters at last month’s Barneys-hosted bash for Donatella Versace, filed a lawsuit on Monday against American Apparel Inc. seeking more than $10 million in damages over alleged unauthorized billboard and online advertisements that feature him dressed as a rabbi.

“Allen was unaware that AAI was going to utilise his image on its billboard and website,” the lawsuit said. “Allen was not contacted, nor did he in any way give his consent to the use of his image and likeness, and he was not in any way compensated for the same, either prior to the infringement or thereafter.”

The billboards featuring his image in New York and Hollywood were put up in May 2007. The images were subsequently displayed in advertising on the retail giant’s Web site and in sponsored advertisements on other Web sites.

The complaint added the unlawful use of Allen’s image for commercial advertising was “especially egregious and damaging because Allen does not commercially endorse any products in the United States of America.”

A spokesperson for American Apparel declined comment

Tips for New Models

Apr 1, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: Modeling

My friend Brittany wrote this blog…and as someone who has been in the business since I was 6 y/o, I thought it was extremely well-informed. We have both been through a lot in this industry, and I think it’s nice to do something to help other girls who are interested. So here she goes:

I’ve had random people and friends ask me about fashion modeling so I thought I would provide information on getting on the right path to becoming involved in this industry.

What I have learned:

You do not need a portfolio when you go to an agency. If you are going to bring anything, bring polaroids/snapshots.

What To Have/Wear In Standard Polaroids/Snapshots:

1.) Little to no make-up.
2.) Hair pulled back in some pictures.
3.) Solid color t-shirt, preferrably white.
4.) Jeans, I’d say go for a dark fitted skinny jean.
5.) A two-piece swimsuit, solid color, any color.
6.) Heels. (If you are too short, don’t think they won’t notice; they almost always ask you to take off your shoes)
7.) White background, don’t have anything distracting.

What Pictures To Take:

1.) One headshot with no smile and hair pulled back.
2.) One headshot with smile, (teeth or no teeth showing) and hair pulled back.

You don’t have to have your hair pulled back but remember, agencies want to see your face and not have any distractions.

3.) One full body shot from the front.
4.) One full body shot from the back. (Hair up for this shot).
5.) One full body shot from the right side. (Hair up for this shot).
6.) One full body shot from the left side. (Hair up for this shot).
7.) One 3/4 length shot…just in case

Also do these shots from your waist up too because that will bring more focus to your face, the others are for your whole body. Do these shots also in your two-piece bikini. For guys, all the same rules, just take the body shots in briefs.

If you do have a portfolio remember that you should mostly seek after tear sheets, (pages from a magazine with you in them). Some girls will ask, “Well how do I get tear sheets from a magazine if I don’t have an agency?” That’s the trick. Build relationships. Find the right photographers, meet magazine editors etc etc etc. It’s all about getting out there and meeting the right people. Make sure you get GOOD tears. Just because you have a tear sheet(s) doesn’t make it a good tear sheet(s). The reason why some agencies want to see tears, (New York wants a model to usually have a full book of tears) is because when you are older they want a developed model. Why take a model in her early twenties when she still needs to be developed? They can find a twelve-fourteen year old they can develop who they will give them a much longer career.

For other pictures in your book, DO NOT focus so much on themes. It’s different to do something with a British theme or a French theme such as wardrobe opposed to EVERYTHING being themed such as the background and props. That will do nothing for your book. When it comes to what shots you need, most agencies will want commercial. Commercial is the biggest market and that’s what will make you money, high fashion will not. Models who do high fashion more than likely do not do it for the money, (because there isn’t much of it unless you are a constant working model and a well-known name) they do it for the love of it.

What’s commercial?

The way I like to describe it is happy smiling gay shit. This is what’s going to be making you money so take pictures that would go along with this. Commercial should not be shot in black and white, ALWAYS color and in bright clothing.

If you want to do fashion you need to know the classic standards of it:

The “cut off” for fashion is said to be 5’7″ but mostly models around 5’7″-5’8″ will be commercial models. Fashion models are 5’9″ and up. Runway is idealistically 5’11″. I have friends who are 5’9″-5’9.5″ be told at castings for runway work that they are too short.

“Well what about Kate Moss? She is only 5’7″ and her agencies say she is 5’8″. She’s short and she has always done fashion.”

Yeah, out of HOW many girls since she started in her young teen years have reached her status in the modeling world? Not many. It was a combination of the right time with meeting the right people, she was young and very thin, not to mention she is a great model. There is more to modeling than just looking at the camera, most girls don’t understand this and it’s something that does take practice and learning from trying new things.

However there are exceptions so don’t lose hope. My favorite model Agyness Deyn is said to be 5’9.5″-5″10″ when in actuality she is really 5’8″ and is known as the new Kate Moss.

If you are an aspiring fashion model be prepared to be told to lose weight. Designers want models to be tall and very thin to put more focus on the design. Large breasts etc are distracting. Miami is better for girls who are fuller with breasts, hips and ass. If you want a specific agency I would say try Mega, they are a Brazilian agency but don’t just sign Brazilian girls. Miami is mostly commercial just like L.A. New York is for fashion and that’s what most models have to lose weight for along with Europe.

For girls who are hardcore Christians and don’t believe in sexuality unless it’s with your husband…don’t get into modeling. I couldn’t agree more with this. You will be around nudity, homosexuals, flamboyant lifestyles, alkie, and drugs eventually. Go to school, live a normal life that won’t put you into situations that this industry will. Especially with fashion. If you become a fashion model you need to understand how much of fashion involves implied nudity and has nudity. Think about Europe. If you are not comfortable with that and you are against it, it’s better to just not get involved in it because they will find other girls who aren’t against it. If your look, port and body is not ready, then other girls who are ready will be booked. People will not wait for you.

Remember to study poses in magazines, study styles, do all the researching you can. Practice in the mirror!! It sounds stupid but then you understand how your muscles feel when you make certain faces and movements. Go to agency’s websites and look at the models’ ports. Get ideas for your own. Research agencies. Don’t get scammed. Go to models.com and go under agencies, they will list the ones that you should look into. DO NOT PAY!!! Never ever pay…If you are signed your agency will automatically be taking a certain percentage from the job you booked.

What is a mother agency?
A mother agency is the first agency you sign with so be careful when it comes to visiting your first agency.

It’s better not to waste your time so I hope this information was helpful. You don’t have to become a supermodel. If you truly do love what you do, then that’s all that matters.

Tattoo…bad girls club?

Apr 1, 2008 Author: Nastassia | Filed under: Just Me

So…I haven’t posted in awhile and for that I do apologize. Unfortunately my life has been crazy with a break up, kitten, lack of money, and a new job.

That aside, I decided I needed a change and therefore got my first tattoo. I say first because everybody says they’re addicting and I think I want to get a leo on the back of my neck but we shall see. I’ve been thinking about this since I was about 16 and decided to get my middle name in an infiniti (also sideways 8 my lucky number) on my left wrist. This way I feel it won’t be IN MY FACE, and it means something special to me. I grabbed Gigi after work and went to the Studio City Tattoo Shop (5 stars on citysearch). After he stenciled my design, two of the girls from Bad Girls Club (On oxygen) came in to get nose rings. There weren’t any cameras and they were really nice. Of course I acted like I didn’t know who they were…who wants to feed their ego?!

10-15 minutes of vibrating/burning pain later…I had my tat and it looked beautiful. It was time to celebrate with a long island iced tea and crabcakes lol.

This was my original idea:

This was the aftermath…you cant really see it, but I can post more pics up later. :D

Bottom line: I’m proud of myself
